“When the apple is ripe it will fall.” Irish proverb
Apples are nice, aren’t they? They come in different colors. Some are very sweet. Others not so much. They are used in all kind of different recipes, drinks as well. Not to mention the great nutritional value it holds; fighting cancer and losing weight are among the top benefits. But how do we eat an apple? Well, silly question. We either take small bites or chop the apple into small chunks. Simple. But have you ever had swallowed an apple in one go?! Just shove the whole thing in your mouth and flush it down with water. I believe that is very highly unlikely to happen.
First of all, the chances of you choking on that apple are almost inevitable. Besides, having it in one go will not allow you to taste how it is. What it is like. Whether it’s good or not. As a matter of fact, the apple itself could have small worms or parasites that will abolish any nutritional gain you might get out of it and just damage your digestive system.
What’s my point? Well, apples are just like success. They really are. How? You just can’t have it in one go. Any person who dreams of succeeding in one try without falling down or making mistakes is just like that person who wants to have the whole apple in one bite. Both of them will choke. Both will end up hurting themselves rather than gaining the benefits they were aiming for. Also, splitting your goals into small chunks will increase the likelihood of you actually obtaining what you REALLY want. What if the apple you just bought didn’t taste nice? Well, you could throw it away and have a new one, or move on to a whole new different fruit. Same thing with setting goals. What if what you thought you wanted to do turned out to be not the case? You can easily move on to whole new different goal. To what you REALLY like. To a fruit that tastes better. Not to mention that you get to see what’s inside your apple i.e. your road of success. You might find parasites or little worms. If that happens, you’ll get the opportunity of choosing what do to next i.e. should you throw it? Or just wash it and go on. The same thing applies to when you follow a certain path. You’ll encounter obstacles (and much more bigger worms and parasites) therefore you’ll get to decide whether you should go on or find a different route.
In other words, make the most out of your apple. It’s YOUR apple after all. You get to decide whether you want to share it or keep it all to yourself. You get to decide whether you like the taste or not. Don’t let others force you into what they think is right. Don’t let others choose or, even worse, ruin your apple for you. Always keep in mind why you wanted to have it in the first place. How you wanted to have it, and enjoy it as much as you can.
“If you have an apple and I have an apple and we exchange these apples then you and I will still each have one apple. But if you have an idea and I have an idea and we exchange these ideas, then each of us will have two ideas.”
George Bernard Shaw
So, how do you like your apples??
