If you look closely at the photo, you can see the price tag. £3.50. I bought this notebook on Thursday April 2 2009. I was in my 4th month of sobriety.
At that time, I was struggling; resisting a strong urge to get high on anything. So I bought the book you see above and I started writing. The rest is history.
June 19th carries a special meaning to me. On June 19th 2009, it was a Friday, I was 6 months sober and clean, and before the night ended I fell off the wagon. That’s the longest period I’ve ever been sober.
The book you see in the photo – although written by me – is filled with words I was trying to enforce on myself. I was, and still am, very tough on myself.
As Nietzsche famously said, “when you’ve worked out, blogged, and ate better for 9 straight days, you’re only one day from double digits.“
